Foster Feature: Meet Skye

Skye joined Windsor Kittens this year and wasted no time jumping into foster life. For her very first foster experience, she welcomed two tiny kittens into her home—a challenge that came with both incredible joy and heartbreaking loss.

After losing one kitten to fading kitten syndrome, Skye leaned on the Windsor Kittens community to help her through one of the hardest parts of rescue.

"What helped the most was having a really good support system throughout the organization. Other fosters and volunteers immediately took action to help me, came to the vet clinic, provided supplies, and offered emotional support. Without that—and having Suzie's sister—I don't know how I would have gotten through it."

Despite the difficult start, Skye never stopped saying yes. She helped her surviving foster, Perla, find a furever home recently and is currently opening her home to temporary fosters while she waits for her next litter.

When asked why she fosters, her answer says it all:

"I love cats and providing a safe place for them to grow and experience love. Watching them start to trust others and form bonds is incredibly rewarding."

One of her favorite memories was watching her resident cat, Mr. Scout, become the best big brother.

"Seeing my cat and my first foster, Perla, start playing and sleeping together has been so much fun!"

Mr. Scout, a four-year-old shelter alum from Phoenix, is actually the reason Skye started fostering in the first place. She could tell he was longing for a feline friend, and fostering seemed like the perfect way to see how he'd do. Turns out, he's a natural.

Fun fact: When she's not fostering kittens, Skye is learning Italian! So if you adopt one of her foster kittens, don't be surprised if your newest family member responds to "Ciao!"
