The Mr. Hill Project

A neighbor, a colony, and a whole community ready to finish what we started.

Windsor Kittens has been working alongside Mr. Hill for nearly two years. Now it's time to get serious — and we need your help to do it.

Mr. Hill has lived in Windsor Park for decades, and for years he has done something remarkable: every morning, he goes outside and feeds the cats. Not just one or two — a whole colony that has made his backyard their home. He is a disabled Vietnam veteran living on a fixed income, and the daily ritual of caring for these animals has become, in his own words, his therapy.

But because of his disability, Mr. Hill isn't able to trap on his own — and for a long time, he didn't have to. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control helped him maintain the colony through TNR, keeping the population stable and manageable. But as Charlotte has grown, so has the demand on CMACC's resources. In recent years they've been unable to continue providing those services in the field, and without regular trapping support, the colony began to grow again.

That's when Windsor Kittens stepped in.

It started the way the best things in Windsor Park do — with a neighbor paying attention. A woman living on Mr. Hill's cul-de-sac had watched the colony grow and wanted to do something about it. In November 2023 she reached out to WK to become a trapper, with Mr. Hill's colony as her very first mission. We've been at it together ever since.

Several more WK volunteers and trappers live just blocks away. This isn't a colony we heard about across town; it's one we pass on our way home every day. What started as one neighbor's determination has grown into one of our community's most personal goals: 100% sterilization, for good.

A model for what's next. This project is also a pilot for how Windsor Kittens approaches large feral colonies across our service area. The tools, the process, the community partnerships — everything we build here becomes the playbook for the next large colony we take on. Your donation isn't just helping one neighbor. It's building something all of our future TNR projects can use.

Windsor Park has always been the kind of place where neighbors look out for each other. Mr. Hill has been doing his part for years. Now it's our turn to do ours — and to finally finish the job.

Every dollar goes directly toward equipment, cleanup, and ongoing care. No overhead. Just a neighborhood taking care of one of its own — and the cats who found him.
