Want some cats in your house?
Foster with Windsor Kittens
“Being surrounded by cute kittens and the lovely cat people that make up WK is a balm to my heart. I’m so grateful I get to help kittens find their forever and be a small piece of the puzzle in saving lives.”
- Sierra W.
A home is just the beginning
Windsor Kittens is 100% foster-based and 100% donor-funded. Our foster families generously donate their homes and time, while donations make the cats' care possible.
That means our ability to welcome new fosters depends on more than available space. We need the resources to provide food, litter, supplies, veterinary care, and everything else each cat needs to thrive.
When you foster with Windsor Kittens, you're joining a community working toward something bigger than one cat at a time. We welcome people who want to help in many ways—from opening their homes to supporting fundraisers and spreading the word about our mission.
Ready to open your home and become part of the team? We'd love to hear from you!
Please note: Foster applications do not guarantee immediate placement. Wait times depend on our current funding, capacity, and the needs of the cats in our program.
“Our foster homes are donated, but the care of the cats in those homes is not.”
The Journey to Furever
-
Fostering means opening your home to a cat or kitten while they receive the care, socialization, and support they need on their journey to adoption. As a 100% foster-based rescue, we rely on people in our community to provide safe, loving homes for the cats in our program.
You provide the space, time, and care. Windsor Kittens coordinates the rescue process, adoption efforts, and support for your foster cat.
-
We don't ask you to pay a fee to become a foster, and fostering isn't intended to mean taking on the financial responsibility of rescuing a cat on your own.
However, every foster placement comes with real expenses, including food, litter, supplies, vaccines, spay/neuter, and veterinary care. Windsor Kittens is 100% donor-funded, so our ability to accept new cats depends on having the resources to care for them responsibly.
The rescue maintains a limited supply of donated products, and we encourage our fosters to advocate for our mission.
-
We love that you're ready to help! But an available room is only one part of a successful foster placement. We also need to ensure we have the funding, supplies, veterinary resources, and organizational capacity to support each cat we accept.
Depending on our current capacity, there may be a wait before we can place a cat with you. We'd rather be transparent and provide the care each cat needs than overextend our resources.
-
A great foster is patient, communicative, willing to follow our care guidance, and ready to help a cat prepare for their next chapter. You don't need to be an expert—just willing to learn, work with our team, and provide a safe and caring environment.
And if you're excited to help beyond your own foster room, even better. The strongest rescue communities are built by people who show up for the cats and for the organization making their care possible.
-
We don't require foster families to make personal donations or meet a fundraising minimum to participate.
That said, fostering makes you part of the larger Windsor Kittens community. As a donor-funded rescue, our ability to help more cats depends on people who support the mission in different ways. Joining the Cool Cat Club, sharing a fundraiser, introducing us to a potential sponsor, or spreading the word about our work can all help us grow our capacity.
Your time and your home are meaningful contributions. We simply hope our community will help sustain the work we're doing together.
-
There are plenty of ways to get involved while you wait! Volunteers help with events, transportation, trapping, adoption promotion, and fundraising. Event support is especially important because it helps us connect with the community, promote adoptions, and raise the funds that make more foster placements possible.
You don't have to wait on the sidelines to make a difference.
-
Every foster journey looks a little different! Our goal is to help foster families care for multiple cats or litters over time, because every time a foster cat moves into their adoptive home, you can open your home to another cat who needs you. That doesn't mean you have to foster nonstop. Breaks are absolutely okay, and our existing foster families often help one another with temporary or relief care when someone is traveling or needs time off.
We also understand that sometimes a foster cat steals your heart and becomes a permanent member of your family! We call that a foster fail, and it happens. However, Windsor Kittens is not a foster-to-adopt program. Fostering is intended to prepare cats for adoption and help us save more lives—not to reserve a particular cat for someone considering adoption. If your primary goal is to adopt a cat, rather than foster cats through to adoption, we'd love to help you explore our adoption program instead.
Our hope is to build a community of foster families who can help again when they're ready, with flexibility and support along the way.
-
Once we receive your application, our team will review it and follow up about next steps. We'll discuss your interests, availability, home setup, and the types of cats that may be a good fit. A completed application doesn't guarantee an immediate placement; placements depend on the needs of the cats and our current capacity.
From the Mouth of Fosters
Katelyn & Taylor
“It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the transformation that happens when a scared or sick kitten is given a safe space, a little time, and a lot of love.”
Lauren, Ainsley, Florence & “GiGi”
“It’s the people that make this mission so special. Being part of something so full of heart is inspiring every single day.”
Madison & Wyatt
“As sad as it is to say goodbye, the joy and excitement their adopter has is so infectious. I love knowing I was a safe, comfortable stop on their journey.”
Take our Adopt in 60 Foster Challenge
The Adopt in 60 Challenge was developed in partnership with the PEDIGREE Foundation, with Windsor Kittens receiving grant support from Maddie’s Fund to advance this work. Our outcome data shows that healthy, adoption-ready Windsor Kittens can successfully make the journey from foster care to their furever homes in approximately 60 days.
Of course, every cat is different! Neonates, seniors, cats with special needs, and those requiring additional medical care or time to prepare for adoption may need a longer stay. Our goal is to help every cat find the right home as efficiently as possible, while prioritizing their individual needs and setting them up for a successful adoption.
